When a Lock Change Is the Right Call
A lock change becomes necessary in more situations than most people realise. The obvious ones are a lost set of keys, a break-in attempt, or a recently ended tenancy — but worn cylinders, stiff mechanisms, and damaged multipoint lock barrels are just as common a reason. If your key has started to feel gritty or the lock is slow to engage, the internals may be on their way out, and replacing the cylinder before it fails completely is far cheaper than dealing with a lockout on a cold evening. Landlords and letting agents in Sidcup tell us that changing the cylinder between tenancies is one of the simplest steps they can take to satisfy their duty of care to incoming tenants, and it also keeps insurance policies on the right side of their terms.
Euro cylinders — the type found in the vast majority of uPVC and composite front doors in this area — are particularly worth upgrading if they are more than a few years old. Older cylinders are vulnerable to a technique known as snapping, where the barrel is deliberately broken to release the door handle mechanism. Anti-snap cylinders, rated to TS007 3-star or equivalent, resist this attack. When you book a door lock change with us, we will always check whether your existing hardware meets current security standards and explain your options honestly, without pushing you towards parts you do not need.
